Ladybird study

45.5cm x 31.5cm

This was originally going to be a lot bigger, but the composition didn’t quite work, which worked out in my favor as I then focused on the ladybird in isolation and it is one of my favorite pieces.  I love how only a very small portion of the ladybird is in focus, but that doesn’t seem to matter because it is more about how the light hits it which brings it to life, showing the reflective qualities of its exoskeleton. There are so many different parts to look at on such a small being. This was completed in 30 hours.

Charcoal on paper.
